About Michael Schor, D.O.M.
I am very excited to be practicing here in Silver City. I have been a licensed acupuncturist since 2012 and have practiced in a variety of settings over the past decade, from traditional Chinese medical clinics to physical therapy offices, and the Tufts Cancer Center in Boston. I have found the combination of acupuncture and a traditional Chinese form of bodywork, Tuina, to be a powerful method for reducing pain, alleviating specific symptoms, and improving overall health.
I am a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine in the state of New Mexico, and nationally board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), as well as the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA).
Services
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body to release tension, increase circulation, and alleviate pain. Many studies have now shown the physiological effects of acupuncture on the body. Through these effects it can alleviate a wide variety of physical and psychological symptoms by reducing stress and tension to re-establish a state of balance.
Tuina
Tuina is a therapeutic bodywork that has existed for as long as acupuncture and uses different manual techniques to release tension at specific points in the muscles and connective tissue. It is very effective in treating injury and pain, and is performed fully clothed or through the covering of a sheet according to the patient's preference.
Cupping
Cupping is the use of specially made glass cups to temporarily lift and compress tight and injured tissues. Rather than pressing against the body as most forms of bodywork do, cupping lifts and compresses the skin and muscle at the same time, releasing tension and improving local circulation.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is one of the few herbal systems in the world that have survived without interruption. Despite the many cultural changes throughout China's history, the herbal medical system has thrived and is now integrated into the modern medical system in China. Chinese herbal medicine is widely studied and accepted and used to treat both acute and chronic health issues. It always uses herbs in formula combinations so that various symptoms can be addressed simultaneously and side effects can be reduced.
In addition to the above therapies, I offer lifestyle and dietary guidance that will assist with the healing process.
